He is the great grandson of Coronel Benjamín Ramírez Ferral Rondón, a veteran of the Ten Years' War, who, after being wounded no less than seven times, was, in 1873, charged with the protection of Carlos Manuel de Céspedes after he, Céspedes, was deposed as president of the Cuban Republic in Arms.

The photo below is of Aldo Daniel Naranjo Tamayo, the historian at the Museo Provincial de Granma, showing Oscar Ros the exact spot in Bayamo where Perucho Figueredo wrote the words to La Bayamesa in 1868.
