The Heroes

There are an uncounted number of heroes who happen to be related to the Figueredo family who served in the Ten Years’ War, La Guerra Chiquita, the Cuban War of Independence, the Spanish-American War, and in more recent hostilities.  This short list of some of the more prominent of them is intended to be representative of the heroism of each and every one of them.

Carlos Manuel de Cespedes y del Castillo, el padre de patria, was, in 1868, the first president of  Cuba at the start of the Ten Years’ War.

Francisco Vicente Aguilera was one of the leading conspirators in the days leading up to the Ten Years’ War and donated his entire personal fortune to the cause.  Cespedes sent him to New York where he raised money and solicited support for the Cuban cause.

Jose Francisco Lacret y Morlot fought for Libre Cuba in the Ten Years' War in 1868, La Guerra Chiquita in 1878, and the Cuban War of Independance in 1895.

Fernando Figueredo y Socarras fought with Cespedes during the Ten Years’ War, and was a close friend and collaborator with José Martí in the months leading up to the Cuban War of Independence in 1895.
